Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) When you come to one of our ADI courses you can be assured of top quality training that commences with an intensive one day classroom course where you will be provided with all the DSA recommended reading materials for study at home. All you have to bring is yourself and your driving licence. After your classroom course we will keep in regular contact with you and help you to organise your studies. Once your study is complete you will then take the Part One Exam. When you have successfully taken the Part One Exam you will then come back to us for driver training to prepare you fully for the second test. You will be asked to demonstrate properly various manoeuvres and you will drive on different types of roads - including motorways. Once you have passed the Part Two Exam - you will move on to the third and final test - the test of Instructional Ability. You will learn how to give a driving lesson under 'role play' where your trainer plays a pupil and you play the driving instructor. It is vitally important that you understand the three core competences that will determine your final grade. The core competences are: 'Fault Identification', 'Fault Analysis' and 'Remedial Action'. At the end of this test you are given a grade by the examiner. If you are graded 4, 5 or 6, congratulations you have just passed your test. |

In recent years approximately 2,500 new ADIs qualify each year, with some 4,000 leaving the Register in each of the past two years. The great majority of these leave of their own accord; around 500 pa are removed for failing to attend a periodical Check Test of their continued ability and fitness to give instruction or for unsatisfactory performance or conduct. Department for Transport - June 2002. |
